The Daito-ryu jujutsu created by Shinra Saburō Minamoto no Yoshimitsu was inherited as the martial art of the Kai Takeda family, while the Aizu domain continued to practice palace self-defense martial arts known as 'Goshikinai' and were kept outside the gates. In the mid-Meiji era, the once-talented martial artist Takeda Sokaku fused Daito-ryu jujutsu with Goshikinai, giving birth to Daito-ryu Aiki Jujutsu. After Sokaku's death, his third son, Tokimune, inherited the techniques of the previous generation, named each technique, and established a teaching system. Daito-ryu Aiki Jujutsu spread nationwide and showed remarkable development. This work was created by Katsuyuki Kondo, the only successor to receive full license from Takeda Tokimune, who revealed all aspects of Daito-ryu through history, performance, explanation of origins, technique introductions, and interviews.
