February 18, 2001 Kensuke Sasaki's first defense of the 27th IWGP Heavyweight Champion ~ June 5, 2004 The birth of the 38th IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuyuki Fujita is included. The era is a martial arts boom, and New Japan Pro Wrestling is shaking due to differences in the direction of professional wrestling even within New Japan Pro WrestlingMat! It is truly a royal journey in turbulent times!
Shinjiro Otani, who switched to the heavyweight division after returning to Japan after a triumphant return to champion Kensuke Sasaki, made his first challenge. Kazuyuki Fujita switched to martial arts, but at Inoki's behest, he defeated his strong opponent Scott Norton and was crowned the title for the first time.
And Hiroshi Nagata was crowned for the first time in the 10th year of his debut, and achieved the longest defense record at the time, V10. One year and four months after his debut, Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Tenzan to be crowned IWGP Champion for the first time.
At the age of 24 years and 9 months, he became the fastest and youngest person in history at the time to win the title, completely changing the landscape of the New Japan Pro Wrestling mat.
Yoshihiro Takayama was crowned IWGP Heavyweight Champion, and "The Beast" Bob Sapp, who was active in K-1 at the time, was also crowned the champion.
